Gordon rushed for a disappointing 641 yards on 184 attempts averaging a paltry 3.5 yards per carry. To add insult to injury Gordon lost 4 of 5 fumbles and never reached the end-zone. The bright side is that Gordon is far from the only one to blame.
Offensive Line Woes
The Chargers offensive line was pathetic in 2015 as Gordon was often met in the backfield by opposing defenders and rarely had running lanes to show off his blazing speed. Even poor Phillip Rivers was the victim of the men up front. He was sacked 40 times for a whopping 264 negative yards.
Things Are Looking Up
But don’t expect 2016 to be a repeat. Everyone on the offensive line is healthy and they added offensive guard Orlando Franklin who specializes in run-blocking.
Keenan Allen is healthy, Antonio Gates is locked and loaded and newly acquired Travis Benjamin, formerly of the Cleveland Browns, is ready to take the top off NFL secondaries.
Phillip and crew will once again spread the field which will open holes for Gordon to do his thing!
Melvin Gordon Strikes Back
That’s right, Gordon will electrify Charger fans in 2016 proving he was worth the number 1 pick.
